Eating, dining and meal times are something that we all contemplate during our daily routines. Whether you leap out of bed for the breakfast bar or prefer someone else to bring it to you whilst you slumber, maybe you crave the quench of a post-workout protein shake... we're all a bit alternative when it comes to eating rituals . There are the fussy... one may desire to complement their dish with ketchup but will never touch a tomato. Do you know  that guy who removes his gherkin from his McDs or the weirdo who licks the dust off their pringles before devouring its crunch... savouring the the flavour of our favourite fooods is personal and certainly not something to be shared with absolutely everyone. Some aspects of those occasions and habits might be safer kept secret. Some therapists argue that nuturition is our primary relationship; from the first infant interaction with its care figure, we learn that love is provided from those who wish for our best chances of survival and matu...

Signs Of Abuse

Image
I cut a bad habit many years ago, by application of the philosophy that every day I didn't do (x) activity, I was ultimately one closer to better health ; I knew that if I could achieve this, then I would attain the insights as to how to advise others with similar conflicting desires. I do realise that absolute self determination and persistence isn't a guarantee that commitments will stand the test of time, yet we can certainly hope so(!) Originally, the reason that prompted me to change was because my (now-ex) boyfriend insisted I seek a psychological intervention in the form of a qualified therapist - reality was he had his own mental turmoil, by which he tethered reverse psychology upon me as a technique of "guilt tripping." I have vague theories about why he acted as he did to warp my senses. (Gaslighting) What I believed to be my own logic and free-will, perhaps what I lacked initially, before entering a relationship such as this one, I can contend that my de...

To Vape or not to Vape?

Image
I am a smoker of the last 5 years, with intermittent breaks, meaning I have managed to quit almost cold turkey for up to and over a month. Various online resources reveal contrasting statistics claiming that it is roughly 28-60 days to create or break a habit of one form or another, so this is not exclusive to smoking. I have been very serious about my smoking addiction and have gone to extreme measures to counteract the effect, in relation to its causes on my health, lifestyle and image. I have no doubt that the iconography depicting smokers have both a severe impact on our social status (whether we choose to adopt this particular scene or not) let alone our self-esteem or ambitions in life. It was suggested in another article I found on the web that smokers are more likely to be on a lower-income or incestuous around covert issues. I think that smoking is nothing more than an addiction, I do believe that a person has personal power to quit, however rem...

To Health

"The gym is a playground for grown ups, and should be used in moderation, unless you're training for a competition or sporting event. Rehabilitation in your local gym can seriously improve your quality of life, not just for your body but for your mind..." SW http://formulaonecastlerock10k.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=5587 2016 Sponsor  > > > > > > >  This 10k race around Nottingham University is still open for entrances, if you are an avid runner, then this is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiasts and beginners alike.  The KISS radio is motivating me, reassuringly in the background, and gosh how it reminds me of a night out in a club. To me, it is the same difference, only I am building my self through the atmosphere in a solitary way, with the company of waggish peers all on their own sacred journey to well-being and ultimately good-health. Photo: blogs.scientificamerican.com I gaze vacantly as I push my limbs forward on t...

Emotional Maturity

Image
1. When you see all your old friends and acquaintances moving on to better things in life and not feel resentful, but perhaps feel genuine gladness for them. That is emotional maturity. 2. When you begin to care less about what your peer groups think and do, and start to feel more concerned about your own direction in life. You stop following cliques or trends to 'fit in' somewhere in this defective society. That is emotional maturity.  3. When you realise what is important in life for your self, your own priorities shift such as, where you are going to live, what job you want...  You stop allowing others to interfere with your life. That is emotional maturity. 4. When you develop a sense of empathy, but you're strong enough not to be affected by the crisis' of strangers or public affairs, hell even your best mates. That is emotional maturity. 5. When you start believing in your self by ignoring bullies and haters, only to rely on your own ideas and a...

Begging and Homelessness

Image
Easter (or Oester) is the time of year, when new horizons begin to develop, for we associate this with rebirth and expect a more pleasant climate, for harvest and growth, both physical and spiritual. The resurrection of Jesus is celebrated and for the less religious, better weather conditions! Recently, there have been posters affixed to the litter bins in Nottingham City Centre advertising the risks of giving money to homeless people/beggars. This has had a mixed response, some have been genuinely outraged for its derogatory context. As a young person in Nottingham myself, born and bred, who has had homelessness issues as an individual, I have felt compelled to write something about this problem. I have explored Nottingham inside-out and witnessed the struggles of the people on the streets. I have been lucky to get accommodation in my times of need, with associations such as Framework, YMCA and Nacro.  The human beings surviving on the streets are not to be blamed f...

Writer's Block

Image
I guess a blog can be many things. It can be a source of useful and entertaining information for the public, or it can be a very intimate diary of events of an individual's life. When I began this blog, I intended on it being a bit of both. Most of all, I wanted it to be fun, with the hope that it would act as a device to reach out to unassuming browsers of the internet. Maybe it has succeeded in doing just that. Now I wonder what else I can do with my writing. I really do look on the bright side of life; when my family or a friend of mine is in a crisis, I tend to reflect on those occurrences with empathy and as much understanding as I can possibly conceive. I have this ability, or disability, depending on your level of optimism, that gives me what I believe to be extra sensory perceptive qualities. So lately, I have found my life crashing before my eyes, everything I built and stressed over to behold, has washed away, been taken from my grasp, as well as my sanity. The...

The Gift Of Life

Image
I know my last blog entry may have seemed like I was on drugs or not feeling well, but at the end of the day, I think I was suffering an episode of poor-mental health, and at the time, it was a genuine attempt to get my ideas across to you readers and to tickle your imaginations a bit. Although I wouldn't wish any one to be plagued by my daft ideas day in, day out; it would drive you batty! I understand that some people like to read as a form of escapism, or to learn, or for entertainment, and sometimes the things I say or write about tend to bewilder the reader and can make them laugh, or cry. (Hopefully cry with laughter because they are the best kind of tears) Perhaps it gives leeway for bragging rights, I've never considered myself the type of person to narrate my entire life story each day to a bunch of strangers, yet I think that nowadays I have delicately obtained the subtle art of not giving a shit. That is to say, I will share with you what I deem appropriate ...

Bed Head & My New Friend

Image
Hello loyal readers! I have to say, that I am really enjoying keeping this blog. Although that may come across as sarcastic, which is generally a problem when it comes to the weird world of words, especially in techie-land, where you can never be 100% sure how serious the sender of your message is being with out the context and aid of emoticons, what I am writing now may seem like it is slightly rehearsed or even bland. Yet this is far from the truth, I always write off the bat and usually in the company of some decent music (by my books) and my infallible research skills, as I don't like to say anything with out doing my homework first, to avoid humiliation for my inaccurate information later. I also do not condemn the grammar Nazis onslaught of correction, need be it. This morning I woke up, as I usually do (in fact, I don't think I've had a day in my life where I hadn't woken up eventually) and I felt a bit rough, unfortunately, I have been suffering migraines ...
