Retail Wars

An unannounced 5p Bread raid on the reduced bakery inventory @ 1800 hours... I am going to be trooping into Morrisons at Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield. As a school of strangers sporadically appear at the location described, as if we were a cadre of soldiers in search for the lowest priced item. Independently managed business, such as Park Stores, Derby Road. With a selection of international delicacies in addition to stocks of Free Range Eggs and organic dairy, can make a substitute enterprise within a family oriented setting. It also deters capitalist motivated markets into fairer equity, which allows smaller businesses, mistakenly stigmatised for exaggerated RRPs whilst they’re simply attempting to match the likes of Wetherspoons or Sainsbury’s (ironically owned by the same CEO) Nichier sale items such as Halal meat are seldom marketed in corporations of the supermarket matrix. Television shows such as Supermarket Sweep, originally aired on ITV featuring presenter Dave Winton in ...

Begging and Homelessness

Image
Easter (or Oester) is the time of year, when new horizons begin to develop, for we associate this with rebirth and expect a more pleasant climate, for harvest and growth, both physical and spiritual. The resurrection of Jesus is celebrated and for the less religious, better weather conditions! Recently, there have been posters affixed to the litter bins in Nottingham City Centre advertising the risks of giving money to homeless people/beggars. This has had a mixed response, some have been genuinely outraged for its derogatory context. As a young person in Nottingham myself, born and bred, who has had homelessness issues as an individual, I have felt compelled to write something about this problem. I have explored Nottingham inside-out and witnessed the struggles of the people on the streets. I have been lucky to get accommodation in my times of need, with associations such as Framework, YMCA and Nacro.  The human beings surviving on the streets are not to be blamed f...

And Autumn Arrives...

I guess I may have to write something here, do I not? Having little notifications popping up intermittently in my emails and Facebook, with concern as to why I hadn't posted again since, well, it will almost have been a whole month now! I'm not going to hold back what I am about to reveal. I am sharing this information on my blog for a couple of reasons. 1) It may enlighten someone else, for them to know that they are never alone, no matter how difficult things have become, for I have surely been there. 2) Just because I am from an affluent area, fairly well educated and would appear to have very few problems, I do not wish others to assume I lack compassion for them too. I may have more empathy for you than you think. I have struggled, insanely. Especially during this entire year, it would seem. I think 2015 hasn't been my strongest year, but I have certainly had a chance to explore myself as a person, and meet new people from circles I would otherwise had never com...

Its the small things

Image
What a strange week so far! It is true, my life is in perfect chaos. There's a distant voice, somewhere from the peripheral, either telling me to give up, coaxing my higher self to forget it, its not worth it, just get pissed and say "screw you" to life... or the more likely truth, is that it is all in my tired imagination and I'm not going to succumb to it's negativity! Parts of me do not want me to succeed. It is unjust and unfair, to actively dishearten someone for characteristics they maintain, whilst they're not fulfilling their own real potential in this dimension. I would not expect any one to hold me back from what I desperately enjoy in my personal life, for them to then treat me with less dignity and set up compromises in order to attain selfish constructs of reality. A bold statement to make here is that we are, irrespective to popular belief, alone. Trapped in the subjectiveness of our own heads, it is our personal responsibility to take...

Be Yourself

Image
Of late, in my intrepid exploration through the vortex of fashion and beyond, I have discovered that as clichéd as it sounds, that less is in fact  more. I know it can be hard to believe, considering that I fancy myself as quite the merchandiser; over many years of trashy garment faux-pas, along with the expected disasters such as the hot pink combats and the tacky version of leopard print. There are certain ways of wearing leopard print, don't get me wrong, I'm not writing it off forever. I have recently downsized to a generous selection of what I consider to be staple fashion come-backs for 2015, which include kimonos, harem pants and embellishment. I managed to pick up some very delicate princess sandals, mint green with a small pointy heel, easier to walk in than they look I can assure you! I was shopping in Manchester with my mum and we always check out the charity shops as well since we like to fuel our money into good causes along with browsing the new lines and sal...

Nottingham Fashion Week Announcement

Image
It's been a busy week on the high street in Nottingham, but I stumbled upon an advert for the Independent Fashion Week, featuring new talent from designers and artists sponsored by the Creative Quarter in Nottingham. On Tuesday I headed down to St Mary's Church, a beautiful venue in itself to host the fashion event, which on the contrary I found rather bizarre that such a thing would be centred in a traditional place of worship, but that's up for public opinion. I digress. The evening promoted fresh style and craftsmanship for both men and women to work day and night. From tailored outfits to some suggestible gothic spirit looks. There was interpretive dancing, live music from Blessing Magore also. A genuine effort to put on an entertaining performance was evident. In hindsight, I'm glad I went along, there was lots of photographs being taken, an air of anticipation, and little left to be desired. The evening fulfilled it's goal of raising money for Emmanuel H...
